RAM 1500 TRX vs Ford Raptor
The 2021 RAM 1500 TRX is the next big thing in the brand’s lineup. The TRX goes above and beyond in both its design, its performance, its interior, and on top of all of that it boasts some of the technology seen yet in a RAM truck. When compared with the 2020 Ford Raptor, the TRX seems to excel in several facets that truck owners may look closely at when in the market. Although both vehicles are pure giants for their class, theres mounting evidence that the Ford Raptor has trouble keeping up. Looking at both trucks side by side, they appear similar at a glance but the total differences are certainly skewed in favor of the robust TRX.
The initial spark that leads to a burning love for your next truck comes with how a vehicle looks and feels on the road. The 2021 RAM TRX ends up being about an inch higher, taller, and wider than the Ford Raptor. That may seem like a small difference, but when it comes to high-powered trucks RAM is a firm believer that bigger is always better. The interior of the TRX most certainly has the upper hand for luxury and integrated tech. The 12-inch display screen comes standard, whereas the ford raptor has only and optional 8-inch display on top of its standard four inch. The MID in the Raptor can project all its pertinent information, including navigation, onto the windshield so even on the roughest roads you never have to take your eyes away.
The biggest difference in the two sports trucks is certainly in their performance. The RAM 1500 TRX showcases one of their most powerful engines yet seen; a HellCat 6.2L supercharged V8 engine. When compared to the Raptor’s 3.5L Twin-Turbo V6, the initially negligible differences between the two trucks become much more apparent. The high-powered engine of the TRX boasts 702 horsepower compared to the Raptor’s mere 450. The Raptor’s engine has a maximum output of 510 lb-ft of torque, whereas the extreme power of the TRX puts the truck at an output of 650 lb-ft. Coupled with its extraordinary power the TRX also beats out the 0-60 acceleration time of the Raptor by over half of a second. The TRX also features Launch Controls, which helps the driver regulate the RPM of the engine. This system also closely monitors wheel slippage to maintain the best performance.
One of the other major differences between the two is towing power and payload capability. Like many of the vehicle’s differences, it stems from the overall power of each one. The TRX beats out the Raptor in overall towing capacity with its 8,100 pounds vs the Raptor’s 8,000. The bigger difference comes in the maximum payload weight, which for the TRX is 1,310 pounds compared to the Raptor’s lesser 1,200.
Both trucks are excellent candidates for off roading options, but with a side by side comparison there is no question that the 2021 RAM TRX is the clear winner. With its highly capable powertrain, its powerful iron block engine, and its overall capability and control options, the TRX is simply the best means for your next adventure.
