This small park sits on just 12 acres near an upscale neighborhood. However, it’s perfect for a morning jog, afternoon stroll, or just enjoying the outdoors. You can even take a look through one of the telescopes to see what’s beyond the horizon. You’ll also want to take the time to see The Lone Sailor, which is a bronze statue honoring the U.S. Navy.
Take your fun indoors and learn something about the Pacific Islanders at this museum. The museum includes rotating exhibits as well as living art. Learn about how the islanders dressed in clothing on display as well as images of native tattoos. Kids will enjoy sessions to make crafts that represent the Pacific Islands and help them learn more about the culture.
Get an up-close view of the creatures of the Pacific coast with over 11,000 exhibits. A favorite is the Shark Lagoon where you can see sharks and rays. Visit Lorikeet Forest to enjoy the local birds. You won’t want to miss out on the touch pools where you can experience sea life firsthand and touch a shark.
Take the ferry from Long Beach to enjoy a historic island. Just an hour away, Catalina Island was quite popular back in the 1920s when Hollywood movies were filmed here. Today, you can enjoy a casino, golf courses, resorts, and even a working ranch. It’s also a popular place for concerts, film festivals, and other special events throughout the year.
You may have to think twice to remember you aren’t in Italy. This neighborhood in Long Beach is set up to look live Venice with canals and an arched bridge. Even the names of the streets are inspired by Italy. Stop by Bella Flora Park where you will see a three-tiered fountain and enjoy a picnic as well as a gondola ride. You can also rent a kayak or paddleboard for more adventure.
The Waterfront in Long Beach is a great way to enjoy the city. Walk or bike along designated paths as you gaze out in the water. You just might get lucky and see some seals or dolphins. While you’re here, check out the boutiques and other local shops or enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants situated right along the edge of the water.
Spend the night aboard an ocean liner from 1936. If you can’t stay the night, you can still enjoy a unique experience with the restaurant and guided tours. You will learn more about how Queen Mary was utilized during World War I and of events of paranormal activity.
